SOURCE MATERIAL

My work begins with production of source material. This includes growing mould on organic materials, preparing petri dishes for bacteria to grow and wrapping and burying matter. I then either work straight from these or apply other processes to them before using them as references.

Petri Dishes

I fill the dishes with agar jelly and then either add organic material or swab surfaces with a cotton bud and rub over the jelly.

Buried matter

I use material to wrap organic matter and then bury it.

Photograms

I apply the photogram process to my petri dishes to make the shapes and textures more apparent.
